Electrifying the Future of Travel With Love’s Travel Stops Installing EV Charging Stations

Love’s Travel Stops, a reliable name for travelers across the country, is taking a giant leap into the future by investing in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This move is poised to revolutionize road trips for EV owners and enthusiasts, while also contributing positively to the environment.

The Oklahoma City-based company has already made significant strides by breaking ground on EV charging stations at two locations in New York. According to a recent news release, each location will be equipped with two dual-port Level 3 DC fast chargers, offering four charging spots with impressive power outputs of 160 kilowatts. This substantial capacity ensures that EV owners can quickly recharge their vehicles and continue their journeys with minimal delay.

“Love’s is honored to play a critical role in actively shaping and building out the fast-charging electric vehicle network across the nation,” stated Love’s President Shane Wharton in the news release. “Expanding the EV charging network is not new to us as we first started in the EV space in 2017 and have continued to grow the network. We now offer more than 100 chargers at 28 stores in 11 states. These future EV investments reinforce our commitment to meeting customers’ needs regardless of fuel type.” This statement underscores Love’s dedication to evolving with the changing transportation landscape and addressing the diverse needs of modern travelers.

The Love’s Travel Stops Installing EV Charging Stations  plans don’t stop there. Love’s has announced that groundbreaking on additional charging stations in Pennsylvania and Kentucky will commence later this year. Love’s has benefitted from plenty of success throughout the federal government NEVI program’s incentives and rebates:

HOUSTON, September 13, 2023Love’s Travel Stops was recently awarded $4.8 million in federal funding to build electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at eight of its locations in two states. The travel stop and Trillium Energy Solutions, a member of the Love’s Family of Companies, which designs, builds and maintains clean fueling stations, were selected as part of an historic investment through the Federal Highway Administration’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program to build an EV charging infrastructure network in Pennsylvania and Colorado.

Furthermore, construction of EV charging stations is set to begin in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington in 2025. This ambitious expansion plan will undoubtedly make long-distance travel more convenient for EV owners, reducing range anxiety and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.

NEVI EV Charging Station NEVI Incentive Awards

Love’s Travel Stops, and gas stations in general, have been cleaning up with incentives for the electrification of their footprint.

As a result, the biggest winners at the dawn of the EV-charging era are some of the biggest fossil-fuel sellers — familiar names like Pilot Flying J, Love’s Travel Stops, Sheetz, Circle K and Wawa — along with the retail division of oil major Shell.

  • Gas stations and trucks stops together are hosts for almost 54 percent of NEVI-funded charging stalls. The largest chains dominate.
  • For example, two of the nation’s biggest truck stop chains, Love’s and Pilot Flying J, are slated to host 39 charging plazas each.
  • Truck stops and gas station chains won $92.1 million, out of a total of $265 million awarded by the infrastructure law to date, according to the EVAdoption data.
