Elon Musk’s Autonomy Dream for Tesla
During the Q2 earnings call for Tesla, Elon Musk expressed his belief that autonomy will be the driving force behind the company’s value. Musk stated, “Autonomy will make all of these numbers look silly.” He reiterated this at a Paris event, emphasizing that autonomy is the main driver of Tesla’s value.
“The value of the company is primarily on the basis of autonomy,” Musk told an event in Paris. “That’s really, I think, the main driver of our value.”
Tesla has already taken several steps towards autonomy. It has integrated several driver assistant features like Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. However, it must be noted that FSD software does not make Tesla completely autonomous and requires driver supervision. The company is also working towards next-gen hardware, which will be the backbone of Tesla’s self-driving vehicles. The hardware will be of the level 5 autonomy standard, which means that the car won’t require any human intervention.
In addition to this, Tesla plans to have a fleet of autonomous ride-sharing taxis facilitated by its network of self-driving cars. This would allow Tesla to have a significant advantage over its competitors and become a significant player in the ride-sharing industry. This vision, however, will require significant investment in autonomous technology and infrastructure setup.
Tesla has also been in negotiations with various car manufacturers to license its FSD software. This move is not surprising, given the complexities of achieving autonomous driving. Automakers like Ford’s ArgoAI have failed to achieve success in this field, and partnering with Tesla could be a way for them to enhance their self-driving capabilities.
Furthermore, Tesla’s autonomous driving capabilities have been able to gather vast amounts of data about the environment, which is used to improve the software. As the number of Tesla cars on the road increases, this will only fuel their data collection. The vast amount of data collected can be used to create a robust self-driving system, something that very few companies can boast of.
Elon Musk’s vision of autonomy for Tesla is ambitious, but it’s what sets the company apart from its competitors. Tesla is not just building electric cars; it is working towards creating a new age of autonomous transportation. The company has already made significant strides towards autonomy, and with Musk at the helm, there is no doubt that they will continue to push boundaries. Tesla’s value is primarily based on autonomy and the data that it has collected. The company’s future looks bright, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Tesla becomes the leader in self-driving technology.
