Investigations reveal that Pflugbeil, alongside his associate Yilong Shao, founded their China-based company leveraging proprietary technology from a major U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer. While the prosecutors did not name the victim directly, they provided sufficient details pointing to Tesla. This is based on the description of the victim’s company acquiring a Canadian battery assembly line producer in 2019, closely matching Tesla’s acquisition of Hibar.

Both individuals previously worked for Hibar, suggesting a direct connection to the theft. Pflugbeil is now facing legal proceedings in custody, while Shao remains at large, with authorities actively seeking his capture.
