The Tesla Cybertruck has generated a lot of buzz as one of the most discussed electric vehicles in recent times. Prototypes and release candidate units can be seen driving around the United States before its anticipated unveiling later this month.

The unconventional design of the vehicle has sparked a divide among internet users. Most people either love or hate the Cybertruck’s angular aesthetics. Very few people are neutral.

Despite the controversy, Tesla has received a staggering amount of pre-orders for its first-ever pickup truck. Based on a crowdsourced tracker, the number of Cybertruck reservations surpassed 2 million earlier in September.

Among the various trims available for the Cybertruck (including single-motor, dual-motor, tri-motor, and quad-motor), the dual-motor variant is the most favored, with 44% opting for it. A further 39% chose the tri-motor option.

Both the single-motor and quad-motor trims have a notably lower number of reservations, making up only 8 and 9 percent, respectively.

In addition to the trim percentages, the Google Sheet also provides information about reservation holders who opted for Full Self-Driving (FSD) as an addition to their Cybertruck purchase.  Slightly more than 67 percent of reservation holders chose to buy FSD as an add-on.

Tesla has managed to collect around $200 million in pre-orders, even though the $100 refundable deposit is very small. The 2 million reservations mean that the Cybertruck has a potential revenue of over $150 billion, according to Teslarati.

Even if 75 percent of pre-orders are canceled, Tesla would still have a substantial customer base of around 500,000.

The same crowdsourced tracker estimates that the Cybertruck has been gaining an average of about 32,000 new reservations per month since November 2021. It’s important to note that the numbers are not exact, as some calculations and corrections were made behind the scenes.

As the Tesla Cybertruck surpasses 2 million reservations, it looks like the vehicle is finally about to arrive at dealerships. According to InsideEVs, Elon Musk is expected to hold a special handover event to launch the Cybertruck later this month.
